Sorry if We're Boring You...

...But judging by the number of comments, this is all a bit dull for most people. Come on, give us some comments you guys! (thanks to those that have already done so.)

We got the flight to Cork in Ireland from Liverpool OK, given the current UK airports security scare. We were able to take a small carry-on bag by then, but we still all had to remove our belts, shoes and everything from our pockets to go through. A bit of a jam!

Ireland has been great, we spent a great boozy night with Will (from work) and Lisa and their friends in Cork. I have developed a taste for Irish stout, in particular Murphy's Draught but also Guinness of course.

We picked up the car and on Tuesday we negotiated the narrow Irish roads and "highways" out west first to Blarney Castle and on to the Dingle peninsular, which is spectacular as you can see in the photo. A FANTASTIC drive, lots of turns, constant gear changes, while surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable! Anderoo would have loved that drive :-)The next day (Wednesday) we spent searching for some of Gail's roots (no not THOSE ones ;-) ) around the tiny village of Ballynahinch in County Limerick. It was agreat excuse to get off the main roads and see some back blocks of rural Ireland. We even had a cup of tea and a scone in the farmhouse of old Mrs Collins near the tiny village (she was an old family friend of one leg of Gail's family). We serched for gravestones and for property and other links. It was very enjoyable, but only partly fruitful.

Yesterday we arrived in Dublin and are staying until tomorrow morning in a hostel in the centre of the lively Temple Bar area on the south bank of the River Liffey. It is a great scene, but boy, is Ireland expensive - our budget is taking a bit of a beating here. The Guiness "factory" tour was very, very good (see photo), especially as everyone ends up with a pint of Guinness at the end (for me that means 2), to drink from the 7th floor glass observatory bar with fantastic views over Dublin.

We fly very early tomorrow morning to Frankfurt in Germany to meet Bruni and Dieter and to pick up their campervan. We are very excited! So, until then...

Comments:

No, you're not boring me. Sad devil that I am, I check your site everyday for an update.

I was just beginning to wonder about the long silence...had you been spirited away by the leprechauns or fallen in love with the Blarney stone (while kissing it)? but no, as I had initially suspected, you had drowned in a barrel of Guinness.

Glad you are still enjoying yourselves (I thought you told me you were not really a drinker?!!)

Have a good journey to Germany

Hey, do you two know a Lisa in every town - or is it the same one everywhere you go?

Great to see how you are adjusting to "main" road traffic. Watch out for the tractors. How did the land search go? We're also dying to hear about the camper. Will there be room for you as well as us?
We've finally had a few days of real winter. Still raining. Spent all day timing at the State Disabled Swim Championships. Arranging for B&G & the Joneses to meet the English cousins when they come in a fortnight or so. Dad & Mum

Yeah Ian - you're a terrible bore...(just kidding matey). It sounds like Ireland was fab. I remember whwn I was there I was amazed how clear the air was - no hint of city smog. As for the booze - say no more!!

I hope you're now well informed regarding Gails roots (ooh err).

Looking forward to the next update...

Colin

I can't believe you're on holidays for five minutes and you're already crying about how no one cares! I just thought I'd add the addy for your old website - I didn't realise how much of a cool cat you really are. Hope you're both having fun, hope Gail hasn't go sick of you yet. Bit filthy that you are standing in front of the guiness sign, not asleep underneath it. Remember, you're an ambassador for Australia, so outdrink the bastards or get a liver problem trying.

It seems that you are having too much fun to give an update of your adventures. Have pity on those of us who are working hard, paying our taxes and keeping the world economy ticking over.

More news, please - or your blog will be deleted from My Favorites... you have been warned....

Yeah, I noticed that there is no mention of you missing your precious offspring, left thousands of miles away to fend for themselves while Mum and Dad swan around Europe like a pair of ageing hippies.

Those poor dear neglected darlings...(the children, not you)...crying themselves to sleep every night...hoping in vain for a mini mention on their dad's blog...don't be surprised if you return home to find they've sold the house to pay for their trauma counselling expenses.
