Germany at Last

Finally an update, sorry to all you fans out there who are checking this blog every hour :-).
We made it to Germay. There was an early morning downpour in Dublin when we had to catch the airport bus, and there was no shelter at the bus stop (very pleasant when you are also carrying your luggage). Dublin Airport was absolutely packed to the gunnels, but we made it. A wonderful welcome at Frankfurt airport by Bruni holding up a sign she had made up welcoming us. The Bruni and Dieter proceeded to treat us like honoured guests in their beautiful home in a suburb of Bad Homburg. They even had an Aussie flag flying from their flagpole to welcome us. But the best was yet to come, a fantastic suprise awaited us the next day, when we went down to a marina on the Main (pronounced "mine") River in Frankfurt, and boarded their beautiful 22 ft motor yacht Kapingamarangi for a 3 day cruise up this beautiful, big working river to the beautiful city of Aschaffenburg and back. What a privilage, and thank you so much Bruni and Dieter!

Note the flag, plus the Renault campervan

Johannesburg Castle (Schloß)

We are now on the road in Bruni and Dieter's campervan (wohnmobile), stocked up, again very generously with supplies including food, wine and beer, plus 2 bicycles, from Bruni & Dieter. We have driven along the tight narrow roads along the Rhine River through beautiful villages and riesling vinyards and heaps of castles for the past few days, which has been an amazing sight.

But now we are in Dusseldorf, staying with Johnny and Edda in their apartment. It is fantastic to be here, although we really only travelled together for 4 or 5 days in Malaysia in 2004, it is like we have never been apart. Last night we went into the city and drank beer on the banks of the Rhine, and in the famed "Longest Bar in the World - die Längste Theke der Welt". We finished the night and early morning by dancing in the very cool Pretty Vacant underground indie nightclub. They even played indie Aussie band The Gossip, I was impressed.

Today we will be visiting neighbouring Cologne, or Köln, including the famous cathedral etc, oh, and they just happ
en to have a beer festival on today!

Oh, I have been reminded to say that we miss Blake and Gemma (and Leo), but understand they couldn`t come with us because they have other commitments!

Comments:
How come this is dated 23 August and when I checked last night around 11 pm (25th) there was no news? Don't try to give me any clever answers - I'm in the same time zone as you!!

Glad you are enjoying Germany and the Bier, Wurst, Pretzel, Schwarzwaldkirschtorte, Wein and other delicacies. Have you weighed yourselves recently?

other commitments? "lack of funds" rather.

Leo's pretty commited to his food bowl and bed.

Applecross Dome opens in a few weeks. So no more driving to south perth every morning at 5:30.

I bought a car stereo. Very "doof doof".

Kyle says that Cologne was invented in Koln. His father was also born there... or was it grandfather? Either way.

... Im glad i wasn't around to see you both dancing :) something i dont miss.

Xxx Gemma

Your poor old parents have "other commitments" too, but they still intend to make the sacrifice of coming to look after you both for a short time at least. Obviously you need a lot of help.
We just loved the flag. What a welcome!...and the guided touring sounds as though you had the very best of hosts.
B & G are here on Tues for dinner. We hope for more exciting news to share by then.
Were your car tyres worn out when you left it here?

About time we got an update,, all about you guys jezz, i can't believe all of theses people you know and just happen to have R.V'S yachts bloody hell! I,m with Gem on not sure about the dancing scary stuff,, well 5 days to go and we are out of here. Let us know on the site if you guys are still looking at being in Italy around the same time. keep rockin,, and take care ##***## LoL Digby's

In reply to the first person (we are gussing its Lisa in Bath - please leave your names, people), I can't change the time and date tags, Blogger is a stupid American site, so they assume everyone in the world is in their time zone.
Gem, yep, cologne was invented in Cologne (Köln), in the 1700´s, and it was the famous 4711. Hope the stereo is good, of course I reserve the right to not buy it off you!
M&D, will be fun to see you, as with you Digby´s. At this stage we are still on track with our general schedule.

Hi guys - sorry it has taken us so long to contact you. Dave "guilted me" into it before he and Jackie flew out to Europe yesterday. We've just returned to Kal after a week in Perth. It was nice to catch a city train and be amongst the hustle and bustle if only briefly. Went to dinner at Chutney Marys (I think you've been there too, in Subi?). Yummy onion Bajis!
I'm loving the photos - and also hating them too....envy is a horrible emotion..... Jules
